Out and about

There’s so much to see and do in Dorset it would take years!  And we hope you’ll keep coming back.  We have current tourist information available but as a taster we’ve listed some of our favourite things below. You could of course just relax and stay close to home, or for green options, the car never needs to leave Seadale.

For example:
West Bay is only a few minutes level walk.  It has a little harbour, beaches and some of the most impressive sea cliffs on the south coast - home to sea birds and a hunting ground for Peregrine Falcons.  We can help you pre-arrange fishing and diving trips in Lyme Bay.  More info at www.westbay.co.uk

As for places to eat, West Bay has everything from traditional pubs to fish and chip kiosks.  For fine dining try The Riverside.  Sample menus can be found at www.thefishrestaurant-westbay.co.uk

Dorset has good public transport links.  The amazing X53 stops close to Seadale.  For a double-decker view take a ride along the Jurassic Coast to Poole or ring the changes and travel east to Exeter for chic shopping. Or, hop off at nearby Burton Bradstock and savour a seafood lunch at the Hive beach. Timetables at www.firstgroup.com

Bridport Golf Club has fantastic veiws over the Jurassic Coastline. Tel: 01308 421095 to book direct, open to none members £18 per player 5 mins car drive from "Seadale" Bed & Breakfast. Click here for their website.

Come and stay and enjoy a round of golf, also bring the family and enjoy Pitch & Putt within walking distance or short drive!

Walkers will be in heaven.  The Dorset Coastal Path follows some of the most spectacular scenery.  See www.jurassiccoast.com  Fossil hunters head for Seatown and Charmouth.  The heritage Centre in Charmouth organises regular walks.  See www.charmouth.org

Bridport is well worth a visit.  It has great, individual shops and an historic street market held on Wednesdays’ and Saturdays.   It’s just over a mile from Seadale and there is a shuttle bus in peak season.   The town also has a good range of cafes and restaurants like the award winning Green Yard on Barrack St.

The village of Abbotsbury
lies eight miles to the east of West Bay.  Apart from the galleries and coffee shops it is home to the Swannery, Tropical gardens and Tithe Barn.  For more information on family tickets and events see www.abbotsbury-tourism.co.uk

Further afield there are stately homes like Mapperton and Montacute.  Fans of Thomas Hardy will love exploring the Dorchester landmarks and the woodland walk to his family home at Higher Brockhampton.  For details on Hardy haunts visit www.hardysociety.org

Lyme Regis is around ten miles to the west of Seadale and is on the X53 route.  It’s known for the ancient Cobb harbour and of course being the backdrop for The French Lieutenant’s Woman starring Meryl Streep.  Walk along Marine Parade, have an ice cream and sit a while on the sandy beach.

Then there’s Weymouth, people watching on the quay, day trips to the Channel Islands, sailing off Portland, the lushness of rural Dorset ... we could say more, but come and see!
